Scope and Contents This series consists of bound cash volumes of first entry kept by the Master of Transportation's Office. Varying in format, they each contain the same information. This series consists of a bound specification and order book used by the Superintendent acting as purchasing agent for the railroad. The volume lists: the type, number, quality, cost, and source of supplies, hardware or goods. A typical entry reads' "One (1) dozen Spittoons No. 3 $17.00 black, by express C.O.D to", p. 95. Some of the goods, especially capital equipment, appears to be for the purpose of replacing materials and equipment lost or damaged during the Civil War.
