This is an artificial series comprising records created in various courts in Georgia and other states affecting residents of Gilmer County. In cases of out of state counties the State is, of course, indicated after the county name.

Motion dockets are dockets containing all civil cases pending in its respective court related to motions which are to be decided by the judge such as applications for the granting of a corporation charter, applications for dower, motions to set aside a sheriff’s sale or motions for injunctions. The information each provides includes (1) names of attorneys involved, (2) names of plaintiffs and defendants, (3) nature of motion, (4) verdict and (5) term of court.

This series consists of promissory notes presented to the court. The notes include: (1) The names of the creditor and debtor, (2) the amount of money involved and (3) the date transaction occurred.

These registers are used to document names of land owners who registered with the clerk after posting their lands forbidding persons to trespass, hunt or fish on such lands. These volumes include (1) name of registrant, name of witness and date of registration, (2) description of lands and (3) district and land lot numbers.

Writ dockets contain legal orders issued by the court commanding the person to whom it is directed to perform or refrain from performing a specified act. The volumes in this series document the issuance of these orders and other additional information including (1) the names of plaintiffs and defendants, (2) term of court in which case was introduced, (3) disposition of case, (4) nature of case and (5) number of case.

These Fi Fas' (Fieri Facias) were issued by the tax collector to the sheriff or other law enforcement officers of Gilmer County for the collection of taxes from delinquent tax payers. The information indicated in these records includes the name of the tax delinquent, the amount each owes and the date.

This artificial series has been created for the purpose of collecting the miscellaneous records of the office to Tax Collector of Gilmer County.

These cash books document the names of the tax payers of Gilmer County. The information found in this journal includes (1) name of taxpayer, (2) amount of poll tax, dog tax, state tax on property, total amount of county taxes and aggregate taxes (State and County) collected from each taxpayer and (3) date of year for which tax was collected and date of payment.
