This series consists of older tax digests from the county tax commissioner's office. To be found in these volumes is a wealth of information including (1) the person's name, (2) occupation, (3) number of children, (4) disabilities, (5) sex, (6) number of hands or slaves under employment, (7) county where land lies, (8) aggregate value of land, (9) amount of debts, (10) capital invested in certain enterprises, (11) value of property other than land, (12) amount of tax assessed and (13) amount of tax paid. These digests have been received from the county courthouse and as a consequence show the actual dollar amount of taxation collected. Older tax digests received from the State Revenue Department are usually lacking in this respect.
