Scope and Contents

This series contains the official recorded copy of plats drawn pursuant to warrants of survey issued by the Governor for the Colonial and Headright counties. Each plat of survey contains the name of the person for whom the survey was made, the date of the warrant authorizing the survey, the date of the survey, the scale used in the survey, and the name of the surveyor. Also included is the county in which the land was surveyed and the acreage, or amount of land surveyed.

Field note books were compiled by district, reserve, and sectional surveyors in conjunction with the District Plats of Survey prior to the distribution of land by lottery, 1805-1833. Field notes record distances and points in which the districts and land lots were demarcated and numbered. References to land features, roads, and watercourses can also be found within the field note books.
