 Series
Identifier: 088-04-026

Scope and Contents

The Source Monitoring Unit of the Air Quality Control Section (EPD) is responsible for all engineering, enforcement and control strategy related to air contaminant emissions from stationary sources. To that end, it makes sure that demolition/renovation contractors and companies needing such work are aware of federal regulations governing the removal of asbestos. This series consists of notifications of the federal guidelines (copies of these regulations are sent out to the various wrecking/demolition and renovation companies and concerns throughout the state), plus notifications of removal projects, inspections of projects by EPD members, corrective action correspondence with the demolition/renovation contractors as well as the companies needing such work and other inter-agency correspondence. In the past, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforced asbestos removal regulations within the state. Today, the Environmental Protection Division of the Department of Natural Resources has full authority to implement and enforce regulation compliance throughout the state having been granted this responsibility from the EPA.
