Human Resources - State Health Planning - Director's Subject Files
Scope and Contents
The General Assembly created in the State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA) in 1978 to help administer federal health funds in Georgia. Although the name was new, many of the functions of this agency date back to the federal Partnership for Health Act (PL 89-749) of 1966. In 1974 [the U.S.] Congress passed the national Health Planning and Resources Development act (PL 93-641). To meet the requirement of this act, Georgia combined the Comprehensive Health Planning Unit (record group 80/4/6) and The Plans and Construction Unit (record group 26/20/44) and named the combined organization the State Health Planning and Development Agency in 1978.
