Georgia Archives - New Georgia Guide - Essay Writers and Project Managers
Scope and Contents
This series contains original and xeroxed material of project coordinator Jane Powers Weldon's working files on New Georgia Guide essay writers and on other guide personnel. The New Georgia Guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. A lead essay about the entire state unifies the guide. Included are: (1) essay writers' files, with contracts, correspondence, sample outlines, original manuscripts and readers' comments, and corrected proofs; (2) correspondence with other organizations contributing funding or resources to the project; (3) correspondence with editorial board chair Tom Dyer and project director Steve Gurr; (4) contact lists, mailing lists, and survey forms.
