Georgia Archives - New Georgia Guide - Writers
Scope and Contents
This series contains original and photocopied material of project coordinator Jane Powers Weldon's working files on prospective writers for The New Georgia Guide and on writers who began but did not complete work on the guide. The guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. Included are: (1) correspondence, outlines and drafts of former writers; (2) correspondence about potential writers; (3) tour writers' contracts; (4) correspondence sent to all tour writers.
