This series contains printed material used as background information on each Georgia county for The New Georgia Guide. The guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. The printed material was gathered by regional coordinators, project staff, and writers. Included are: (1) Dept. of Transportation county highway maps, (2) Chambers of Commerce publications, (3) brochures from historical sites, (4) brochures from resorts and tourist attractions, (5) soft cover publications from county and local historical societies, (6) lists and notes compiled by essayists or tour writers (for a few regions only).
