Franklin County - Inferior Court - Court Record Drafts
Scope and Contents
The Inferior Court, a common law court, was established in each county by the Georgia Constitution of 1789. The court had a dual function, to administrate probate and hear minor cases, and when sitting for county purposes, to conduct county business. A constitutional amendment of 1852 provided for a separate court of ordinary for each county which took on the inferior court's probate functions. This series of unbound records consists of: (1) notations to the county treasurer for payment of services provided to the county by individuals (usually entered into the minutes of the court); (2) jury lists; (3) receipts, and (4) vouchers.
