Franklin County - Probate Court - Misc. Inferior Court Business Files
Scope and Contents
The Inferior Court, a common law court, was established in each county by the Georgia Constitution of 1789. The court had a dual function, to administrate probate and hear minor cases, and when sitting for county purposes, to conduct county business. A constitutional amendment of 1852 provided for a separate court of ordinary for each county which took on the inferior court's probate functions. This series of unbound records consists of thirteen folders dealing exclusively with the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and public buildings. These folders include: (1) unidentified estate appraisal information; (2) arrest warrants; (3) records concerning mail delivery, and (4) receipts for law books received.
