Scope and Contents
This series consists of documents relating to research for a means for eventual control or cure of the various chronic diseases. The Division of Physical Health fulfills part of its responsibility for the administration, direction, and coordination of the physical health programs throughout Georgia by the diagnosis and control of diseases. Disease Unit has the mission: (1) to identify, refer, or bring to treatment, individuals with major chronic diseases, such as (a) cancer, (b) stroke and heart attack, (c) kidney, (d) rheumatic fever, (e) high blood pressure, (f) diabetes, (g) speech, vision, and hearing, and (h) cystic fibrosis; (2) to operate and administer programs for (a) cancer control, (b) aging, (c) rehabilitation services, and (d) FOCUS (Focus on Coordination of Unified Services); and (3) to contract with hospitals to provide treatment for persons with kidney diseases who are unable to pay from their own or other resources. The research/study files contain program/project information such as (1) the background and purpose, or the problems which provoke the need for the study, (2) project organization and personnel, (3) the objectives of the project, (4) the methods for achieving objectives, (5) documentation of funding, and (6) the results of the study, included in the papers are (1) progress reports; (2) correspondence and memoranda produced by state intradepartmental and federal/state communications on the implementation of the project; (3) statistics in the form of columnar data, computer printouts, charts, and graphs; (4) materials documenting meetings and workshops; (5) project proposals; (6) contracts; and (7) other related materials documenting the project.
