This series consists of several bound volumes and a folder of correspondence concerning bonds of the Western & Atlantic Railroad, the Macon & Brunswick Railroad and the Brunswick & Atlantic Railroad as well as an inventory of 1870 (bound) and 1871 (unbound). More specifically, Volume 1 contains a register of endorsed bonds of the Macon & Brunswick Railroad plus a copy of the endorsement by the State. Also within this volume are Brunswick & Atlantic Railroad endorsed bonds with a list of bonds signed, delivered and to whom. Volume 2 contains the names of lessees of the Western & Atlantic Railroad and their bonds to the Governor of Georgia. Also included in this volume is a Commissioner's report to the Governor examining the W & A and all its appurtenances together with a schedule of property and a statement of its condition and value as ordered by the Governor following the lease by the State to a company so formed as provided by the Act of October 27, 1870. Volume 2 covers the terms of Governors Rufus B. Bullock, Joseph E. Brown, Benjamin Conley and James M. Smith. This volume is particularly significant in that it is the only known copy of the agreements and correspondence dealing with the leasing of the railroad in 1870. Included also in this series is an unbound letter to former Governor Joseph E. Brown from the Superintendent of the Car Shops dealing with an inventory of 1871 of the Western & Atlantic's rolling stock as it compared with the inventory of 1870. Both of these inventories give a comprehensive record of all the Western and Atlantic's property as it was turned over to the lessees in 1870.
