Western and Atlantic Railroad - Treasurer - Passage Clerk's Cash Received Receipt Book

 Series
Identifier: 018-04-074

Scope and Contents

This series consists of a small booklet containing the receipts of funds from the Passage Clerk for cash received from conductors and ticket sales. There are two entries per page and they list: numerical amount of receipt in the upper left hand corner, person's name from whom the money was received, amount of money received written in long hand, where the money came from, for what period the money was received, and treasurer's signature. The entries were made usually within the first two weeks of one month for the amount received the preceding month. The booklet begins with receipts for "conductors cash" and "Crews ticket sales". Then around 1860, "Crews ticket sales" (apparently this was a man named J.R. Crews) changed to "P. Maddox sales". In the late 1860's, seasons and "1,000 mile" ticket designations were used.
