Western and Atlantic Railroad - Auditor - Income and Expenditure Statements
Scope and Contents
This series consists of a single bound volume containing both income and expenditure statements composed by the General Bookkeeper working in the Auditor's office. The information contains comparisons of the income made by the W&A from October 1852 to January 1853 with the income generated during the same time period the preceding year. There are also tables showing the expenditures from the same time period but there is no comparison made with the preceding year. In addition, the expenditure tables have information on the payments made for liabilities incurred prior to February 1852. These statements summarize the type and quantity of commodities in "down transportation" (imported) to Atlanta, the number of passengers, "through" and local freight. This volume is invaluable in that it shows at a glance, even for a limited period of time, the growth of the W&A in freight, passenger and mail revenue. Also too, it quickly shows the expense involved in running the railroad during the same time period.
