Scope and Contents

This series consists of bound day books in the form of journals and books of first entry with the function of the recording of adjustment entries. The adjustments were made for lost or damaged goods, returns or overcharges. Entries are generally credits to shippers or carriers and fall under a general heading, i.e., "sundries to GRRA Co.". This is followed by the: name of the claimant, date, description of the claims including the claim, shipper, carrier, and the authorization for the entry, amount per claim, and total per claimant.

The entries are arranged chronologically by date of entry but lack an index.

These entries were also entered in Series 26, Journal of Receipts and Disbursements, of this sub-group, at the beginning of each month in summary form without listing particular claimants. Each entry in the day books was generally audited and marked with an account number. In Volume 1, this series comprises the second half of the volume beginning after page 200. Series 14, Bound Treasurer's Cash Journals, of Sub-group 4, comprises the first half.
