Western and Atlantic Railroad - Auditor - Auditor's Office Invoices
Scope and Contents
This series consists of invoices attached in an adhesive letter and invoice file. The format of the invoices generally consists of the: date, seller's name and address, units, description, unit price, and total. An inch of the left hand margin of the invoice was pressed against a mucilaginous thin, upper leaf of the volume which permitted the attached bill to be held in unrestricted view. This was a common business practice. With the exception of two bills for iron spikes, most of the invoices are for small sums and probably cover the equivalent of a petty cash fund. A typical entry bought from T.M. and R.C. Clarke Co. on July 20, was: "100, car bolts, 2 X 3/8, $3.70" and other bolts for $7.52. The invoices are of a standard 3" X 5" size.
