Scope and Contents

The Georgia State Election Board was formed by the Georgia Legislature in 1964 (Ga. Laws 1964 Ex. Sess. p. 26).

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Formulating, adopting and promulgating the rules and regulations for the practices and proceedings, which adhere to the law, that control the actions of the election officials and the administrating of primaries and elections.

Publishing and distributing indexed copies of election laws, rules and regulations, and providing explanatory pamphlets regarding the interpretation and application of those laws.

Investigate, or authorize the Secretary of State to investigate, any lack of adherence, fraud or irregularities in the primaries and elections.

Formulating, adopting and applying the rules and regulations for uniform and nondiscriminatory standards that define what a vote is and what is counted as a vote.
