This series contains various reports, some published, primarily in prose form but also including charts, blueprints and specifications submitted to the Board by various survey committees to study the administrative and physical plant conditions and future needs of the University System. At times the committees were composed of System personnel and at other times specialists from various professions were employed. An example of an administrative survey would include a summary of the functions, principles and policies of the System and brief histories of the various institutions composing same. Also included might be recaps of the findings of previous survey committees and a history of the Board of Regents. Further topics of major attention might include (1) administrative changes in curriculum and institutions, (2) faculty changes and needs, (3) the status of Negro institutions, (4) the determination of locations and institutions which specialize in certain subject areas, (5) the administration of students and (6) miscellaneous problems such as the elimination of nepotism, the strengthening of summer school programs and Library facilities and widening the scope of the Chancellor's office. An example of a campus development survey would include (1) a description of the existing campus plan, (2) the intent and details of the proposed development plans, (3) inventories of existing buildings and space utilization and (4) the current policies on faculty and student housing. These surveys would more than likely be conducted by architectural consulting firms.
