Scope and Contents
This series consists of the general administrative records maintained by the Chancellor of the Board of Regents in dealing with the various colleges and schools of higher learning in the University System of Georgia. Included are (not an inclusive list): (1) garnishments of employees of the various schools and colleges (2) speeches made by the Chancellor; (3) correspondence concerning real estate purchases for new facilities, of the University System as well as correspondence relating to such; book reviews from various professors, disbarment of females from Georgia Tech (1937), etc.; (4) pamphlets concerning religion at the various schools and colleges; (5) lists of those qualified to graduate; (6) general financial files, bequests, debts of athletes, approval of (7) personnel contracts with professors and employees; (8) applications for presidency of various institutions, and (9) school bulletins. As chief executive officer of the Board of Regents, the Chancellor is responsible for performing any duties directed by the Board. He has broad discretionary power to execute the resolutions, policies and rules adopted by the Board for operating the University System and governing its institutions. Although not allowed to vote, he participates in all meetings of the Board and its committees. His office prepares the agenda for these meetings and submits any of his reports or recommendations to the Board for consideration. Another of the Chancellor's major functions is preparation of a budget for the overall system, including suggested allocations for each institution after hearings with each school's president. In addition to his responsibilities to the Board, the Chancellor serves as chief administrative officer of the University System and generally supervises all institutions. All letters, reports, recommendations and official communications from institutions, their presidents, faculties, employees and students to the Board of Regents must be presented through the Chancellor.
