Scope and Contents
This series consists of: (1) copies of committee/association minutes, (2) meeting agenda, (3) annual budgets, (4) correspondence, and (5) other materials relating to the various committees and associations dealing with the education of exceptional children as administered by the Program for Exceptional Children Section. An example of some of the specific kinds of documents includes: (1) memos concerning feedback from Adapted Physical Education Workshops, (2) education specialist rationale for certification in adapted physical education, (3) an abstract of a position paper concerning assistance in developing guidelines for teachers certified in adapted physical education, (4) a summary of special education hearings held in Georgia, (5) clarification of programs for exceptional children regulations and procedures, (6) questions and answers concerning the proper area of the gifted, (7) schedules of special education administration workshops, (8) recruitment suggestions for teachers of the visually handicapped and multiply handicapped/visually impaired, (9) reports on conferences with representatives of the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped and (10) a pamphlet of Georgia's Affirmative Action Plan. The Program for Exceptional Children Section is responsible for providing planning, consultation, monitoring and technical assistance for the: 187 local school districts, 16 Georgia Learning Resources System centers, 24 psychoeducation centers, and 16 Cooperative Education Service Agencies in the program for exceptional children. This unit annually evaluates the LEAs (Local Education Agency) serving handicapped children to determine compliance with the regulations and procedures governing special education, as mandated by Public Law 94‑142, Education of All Handicapped Children Act and Georgia's Annual Program Plan for Education.
