Scope and Contents

This series consists of documents relating to the various programs administered by the Division of Special Programs of the Office of Instructional Services. The Division of Special Programs provides leadership to Title I (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965), migrant, bilingual, special education, and compensatory education programs in the public schools and other institutions as specified in the Adequate Program of Education for Georgia Act (APEG). To assure that all handicapped and gifted children are provided adequate educational experiences, the Division implements procedures for expenditure of state and federal compensatory and migrant funds for services to eligible children in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. The files are composed of (1) correspondence and memoranda between division staff, personnel of other agencies, legislators, and school superintendents (a) contains such information as proposed changes in federal regulations and budget cuts, (2) staff and committee reports (a) includes papers identifying the goals and accomplishments of various programs, e.g., "Child Serve," Georgia's education program for the handicapped, (3) agenda and minutes of meetings, (4) materials relating to workshops (a) includes schedules of proposed workshops for staff to discuss regulations; to make short and long range plans; to develop program policies, and procedures; and to provide in‑service training, (5) budgets, (6) itineraries and schedules, (7) statistics on program allotments of state funds, and (8) other related materials documenting the administration of the Division of Special Programs.
