Education - Staff Services Dept. - Georgia Education Oral History Interview Tapes
Scope and Contents
This series contains taped interviews with two former State superintendents of schools, Dr. M.D.Collins and Dr. Claude Pureell, conducted under the superĀ vision of former Department Public Information Officer, Bernice McCullar. The interviews consist of fascinating reminiscences of earlier years in the history of public education in Georgia and vividly document the evolution of the Department up to 1958. Both former superintendents reveal autobiographical data and then proceed to discuss their respective careers, cite interesting anecdotes and give personal evaluations of governors and others with whom they worked. They are very generous in recognizing the roles of others in the growth of the State public education program. They also indicate their personal dedication to and philosophies concerning the field.
