Forest Research Council - General Administration - Director's Subject Files
Scope and Contents
This series contains the subject files or general administrative files of the Director of the Georgia Forest Research Council, 1953-76. The Council coordinates and designates forest research priorities in Georgia, chooses appropriate agents for research, and allocates money from state, federal and private sources. The series primarily consists of letter-size correspondence and some publications. The letters deal with professional associations, forestry groups, lobby groups, research organizations and some political correspondents. The letters reflect to a great degree the organized efforts of pine silviculture in South and Central Georgia and its technical aspects. The researcher should also note the proponderance of files at "G" and "U" in the extraordinary long shelf list below. These signify the importance of Georgia State agencies and associations and the close working relationship of the Council with the United States Forest Service. As of July 1, 1978, the functions of the Forest Research Council were transferred to the State Forest Commission. One may also review the Council Minutes, Research Reports, and other records for reference.
