This series contains the annual published reports of the Georgia Department of Labor which, as the series title indicates, changed its name twice in its history. Though the format of these reports also changed considerably over the years, some generalizations on them can be made. Most of the reports contain both narrative sections and statistical information in the form of tables and charts. A typical report would contain chapters contributed by the Georgia Commissioner of Labor and the divisions dealing with inspection, unemployment compensation, appeals, legal matters and the industrial board. Tables and charts might include such subjects as: (1) disposition of new claims by type (2) distribution of claims by local office (3) distribution of benefit payments by local office (4) by industry (5) by county and by size of payment (6) summaries of civil and criminal cases by year (7) suits filed against Bureau of Unemployment (8) bankruptcy cases (9) claims received (10) benefit payments (11) accidents reported and benefits paid by type of industry (12) by type of dependency (13) by cause of death (14) by industry group and by kind of injury and summaries of accidents reported. Lists of industrial firms located in Georgia, members of various applicable boards and commissions and local Department offices are also often included.
