Governor - Judicial Processes Commission - Governor's Commission on Judicial Processes Report

 Series
Identifier: 001-19-100

Scope and Contents

This printed report was submitted in response to an executive order of June 4, 1971, establishing the Governor's Commission on Judicial Processes. In the order, Governor Jimmy Carter articulated the duties of the commission, namely to "make recommendations for the improvement of our judicial system for consideration by the people of Georgia and at the 1972 Session of the General Assembly of Georgia." The report contains a list of commission members and a table of contents which indicates in its 30 entries that virtually all phases of the subject are discussed. Among these are: (1) court organization and administration, (2) jury system, (3) regional juries, (4) consolidation of cases, (5) negotiated pleas (6) pattern jury instructions, (7) electronic surveillance, (8) organized crime, and (9) issuance of search warrants. What discussion there is, however, is extremely brief and none of the subjects is pursued in depth. For a much more lengthy final report compiled by the commission after an in-depth study of the state's judiciary, see RGSGSERIES 1 - 19 - 69.
