By direction of the Governor's Commission on Judicial Processes, law students surveyed ten of the State's 42 judicial circuits. It was felt that these ten circuits, including 32 counties both rural and urban, distributed around the State and containing almost 50% of the State's population, would provide a good cross section sample for analyzing the activities of the courts and identifying many of the problems common to all Georgia courts. This series is composed of the Data Collection Sheets gathered in all of the ten circuits. These sheets are arranged alphabetically by circuit, then alphabetically by county, then by type of court and then chronologically by date of collection. Furthermore, the sheets compiled in each of the ten circuits are numbered. The arrangement of the sheets by collection date utilizes introductory sheets that identify: (1) data collector's initials (2) survey date (3) circuit (4) type of court (5) location (6) type of case (ten categories with code) (7) status (nine categories with code) (8) date the case initially entered the judicial system (9) date of final disposition or last action (if applicable). The continuation sheets are numbered and dated with the following information: (1) data collector's initials (2) case number (3) dates of first and last entry (4) codified information on type and status. There is no index for these sheets, which provided the statistical input for the final report of the Governor's Commission on Judicial Processes, RGSGSERIES 1 - 19 - 69. Other uses and interpretations of the data, not included in the Commission's report, are possible and hence might prove helpful to researchers.
