Governor - Minority Affairs - Subject Files
Scope and Contents
Rev. Robert L. "Jackey" Beavers was Governor Joe Frank Harris’s executive assistant for minority affairs and small business from 1983 to 1990. He provided constituent information and solved problems, primarily for African-Americans, small businesses, and religious leaders, and kept the governor informed of events in these areas. He also served as the governor’s liaison with commissions, organizations and task forces related to African-Americans, civil rights, and small business, both within government and in the private sector. This series consists of records from the governor’s executive assistant for minority affairs, on topics concerning the African-American community in Georgia. Included are: 1) correspondence routed from the governor and directly to Beavers from African American business and religious leaders, informing them of events or of progress in their areas of responsibility; 2) requests from citizens for assistance, usually with state and federal programs or agencies; 3) invitations for the governor to attend or speak at functions, and 4) agendas, minutes, and correspondence from Beavers' involvement with organizations, commissions and task forces.
