Groveland Lake Development Authority - Executive Director - Public Hearings

 Series
Identifier: 269-02-002

Scope and Contents

These are the records of public hearings on the Groveland Lake Development Authority, recorded on two media: paper and magnetic recording tape. The hearings consist of the viewpoints of proponents and opponents whether in a question and answer session, prepared speeches or rebuttals, or correspondence submitted prior to the hearings. The purpose of these hearings was to elicit and formulate public opinion on the project. The proponents argued on the basis of real estate value increments, secondary economic benefits, and recreation for a large area. The opponents feared land speculation, the technical validity of the Authority's studies, and the loss of homes, churches, cemeteries, and especially farm land to inundation. The tapes may duplicate the transcripts of the hearings, but they include hearings at other sites on other dates.
