State Property Control Commission - Western and Atlantic Railroad - Commission Minutes
Scope and Contents
This series consists of a single bound volume containing the minutes created by the Western & Atlantic Railroad Commission during the period of December 9, 1915 to June 30, 1920. Beginning in the middle of the volume, the typewritten pages chronicle the work of the Commission during this five year span. Created by an Act of the Legislature on November 12, 1889, the Commission's prime function was to oversee the re-leasing of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Some examples of business culled from the minutes include (1) election of the officers within the Commission, (2) discussion of terms of the Lease Act, (3) presentation of duties and work of Attorney and Counsel, (4) procurement of map profiles, surveys, estimates and engineering data from the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway and (5) a duplicate o f the Lease Agreement between the Western & Atlantic Railroad and the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway. The Comnission ended its function with having to fulfill only two litigated encroachments and a few other minor encroachments and the supervision over the properties leased.
