Area Planning and Development Commission - Chattahoochee-Flint Area Planning Development - Minutes
Scope and Contents
This series consists of the minutes of the Chattahoochee-Flint Area Planning and Development Commission (APDC). The Commission is a public agency, currently working to promote regional development in Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup Counties. The Commission is one of many APDCs in the State of Georgia. Each APDC serves between five and thirteen continuous counties; however, the number of counties composing an APDC may vary from year to year. The legal association of Georgia counties into regional groups was authorized by the passage of the Planning and Zoning Enabling Act of 1957 as amended in 1960. The Chattahoochee-Flint APDC's first responsibility is to strengthen local government. Locally selected Board members from each county form the governing body of the Commission. These commissioners plan development projects and administer the fiscal affairs of the APDC. The primary objective of this Commission is to decrease unemployment and increase income through the creation of job opportunities for the area's residents. To achieve these goals, the Commission works to promote the development of industrial, civic, commercial, and natural resources of the participating counties. The APDC's budget is provided through local contributions, state matching funds, and federal grants. The minutes cover the regular monthly meetings of the Commission. They contain: the Commission's activities report (which includes information about basic economic data, site studies, industrial prospectus, assistance to local development groups, technical assistance to existing industry, and new industry); a summary of the executive director's report; progress reports from spec;ific projects and programs, e.g., Comprehensive Plan and Water and Sewer Development Plan; committee reports, e.g., Mineral Resources Committee; resolutions printed in their entirety; the annual budget with salary schedules and sources of income; committee appointments; a list of the people present at the meeting; and other documentation of the Committee's actions.
