Western and Atlantic Railroad - General Ticket Agent - Other Railroads Through Passage Ticket Sales
Scope and Contents
This series consists of the unbound statements of accounts of "through" ticket sales with other railroads. Although varying in format from company to company, the statements generally hold the same information. They list: (1) form number, (2) where from, (3) where to, (4) commencing and closing sequential ticket numbers, (5) number of tickets sold, (6) "through" rate, (7) proportion the W&A was to receive in revenue, and (8) total amount. The Western & Atlantic, in collaboration with other connecting railroads, helped passengers travel from state to state and for this received a proportion of the ticket price. Also included is a single ticket correction sheet sent from the Central Pacific Railroad Company to the W&A reporting a "through" ticket to San Francisco that wasn't reported by the W&A on an earlier passage list to the Central Pacific.
