Natural Resources - Commissioner's Office - American Cyanamid Epd Plant Hearing Files

 Series
Identifier: 086-01-021

Scope and Contents

This series contains the landmark water pollution case involving the Georgia Environmental Protection agency and the American Cyanamid plant in Savannah. Included are transcripts of court proceedings including depositions submitted by experts in various fields, briefs, both initial and rebuttal, company and State exhibits including many water quality analyses of the Savannah River water performed both by private firms and the Georgia Water Quality Control Board, maps, charts, projections of environmental impact and a lengthy transcript of the proceedings before Hearing Officer Robert H. Walling which took place in September 1973. The series illustrates the legal ramifications of environmental protection cases. The finding aid indicates what is included in this series, but it is important to note that the State's exhibits are boxed in the first two boxes, while the company's exhibits are boxed separately. Company exhibit 45 consists of a reel of film which due to its size is not in any of the boxes. Please note also that the lengthy review proceedings fill two boxes without any attempt having been made to achieve any order among the several volumes of transcript contained therein. Several of the brief documents are indexed because of reorganization, these files are now under Environmental Protection Division (See Record Group 88/1/17).
