Surveyor General - Survey Records - Colonial Plats and Warrants
Scope and Contents
This series consists of plats and warrants from the Royal Provincial Period. As many were lost or carried away by the British during the Revolutionary War, the records in existence provide a representative sample.
Each plat shows a drawing of the tract; physical features; scale; name of parish in which tract was located; acreage; names of adjoining land owners, if any; date of survey; and signatures(s) of the Surveyor(s) General who made the survey.
Each warrant gives the name of the person to whom it was given, location of the tract by parish or sometimes by physical description, date of warrant, signatures of the Secretary and Governor. The following notations are usually on the verso of a warrant: name of the person to whom the warrant was issued, acreage, and book and page on which the plat is recorded.
