Scope and Contents
Also included are registers of escheator fidelity bonds posted by Georgia county "escheators" as security. These bound registers were created in the Office of the Governor. They relate to the posting of performance bonds by county escheators. The clerk of the Inferior Court of each county was the administrator for the estates of persons who died intestate. This was in the tradition and meaning of escheat which was the reversion of property back to the Crown when no blood heirs survived. The bond registers list the name of the escheator, the name of the surety, the county and the governor. The date of the appointment of the bondee as escheator and the date of his confirmation is also given.
