Scope and Contents

Also included are registers of escheator fidelity bonds posted by Georgia county "escheators" as security. These bound registers were created in the Office of the Governor. This was in the tradition and meaning of escheat which was the reversion of property back to the Crown when no blood heirs survived. The bond registers list the name of the escheator, the name of the surety, the county and the governor. The date of the appointment of the bondee as escheator and the date of his confirmation is also given.
