Governor - Public Officials' Commissions - Contested Elections for Commissioned Officials
Scope and Contents
All contested elections for officers commissioned by the Governor are referred to the Governor's office. Each contestant must notify the Governor immediately of his decision to contest the election. Then within twenty days of this announcement the contestant must forward to the Governor his charges against the contestee stating the grounds for the contest, the time and place of taking testimony for the case and the name of the officer before whom the testimony is to be taken. The Governor then withholds issuance of the commission until the contest is resolved. (Ga.L. 1898, p.44.) Included in this series, though not for every case, are the initial announcements, the charges, some testimony, correspondence with the litigants and announcements of the Governor's final disposition of the cases.
