Included in this series are: (1) photocopies of Published Acts and Resolutions of the General Assembly concerning the Penitentiary, reproduced from Georgia Law; (2) a few items of correspondence. Most are letters by prison camp officials to the Principal Keeper notifying him of the appointment of "Whipping Bosses" and requesting approval of the appointments; (3) four Grand Jury presentments from Polk, Dade, Fulton and Walker counties commenting on conditions in convict camps in these counties; (4) certifications of convictions consisting of extracts from the Superior Court Minutes of various counties showing that the prisoners were convicted and giving the sentence imposed by the courts. There are also statements by the Clerk of the Superior Court certifying that the extract is a true copy and the Clerk's seal is affixed at the bottom; (5) weekly lists of convicts leased to Grant, Alexander and Company, and assigned to the Airline Railroad, Brunswick and Albany Railroad camps. These lists show only convict's name and county of conviction; (6) other miscellaneous items including: (a) contract between the Georgia Penitentiary Company Number 2 and B.G. Locket concerning leasing of convicts, (b) blank forms headed "Georgia Penitentiary Descriptive Fist", and (c) broadside headed "Orders and Instructions to Lessees of the Georgia Penitentiary."
