Scope and Contents

This series contains registers of the names of registered nurses in Georgia. Although the format changed somewhat over the years, the name of each nurse, the registration or certification number and the date of certification were always indicated. Often the address, either merely the town or city only or a complete street address, and the maiden name of each nurse were also given.

Apparently each surname letter of the alphabet was assigned to a different secretary, because the variations in format are particularly noticeable between them. Furthermore, the pages are not numbered consecutively. For example, the pages in the 'A' section in Book 17-1A are numbered one through six and then the "B" section begins with page 15. Rather ironically, despite the alphabetical grouping by surname, there is also an alphabetical index in Book 17-1A. A much more helpful index by certification number sequence and date is provided in Books 17-1A and 17-2A. The latter book is tabbed by alphabetical sequence but contains no alphabetical index.
