Public Service Commission - Administration - Subject Files
Scope and Contents
This series consists of (1) correspondence, (2) forms, (3) appointments, (4) reports, (5) directives, (6) legal reports, (7) minutes, (8) briefs, (9) rules and regulations, (10) financial statements, (11) contracts, (12) copies of petitions and (13) annual reports. These files, though fragmentary, are full of information on the efforts the Public Service Commission undertook in the early days to regulate the infant trucking industry, taxi commission, railroads and public utilities. Although not established as a constitutional commission until 1945, the early PSC had clout and though strapped for manpower, strove valiantly to see that its rules and regulations were upheld. For other correspondence records, one may see Series 9, General Administrative Correspondence Files and Series 20, General Administrative Reading Files, both of this sub group.
