These notebooks are a record of the experiences of pharmacy interns or apprentices during their internship in various drugstores, hospitals and other pharmaceutical outlets. The notebooks are presented to the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy when the intern applies for his license as a Registered Pharmacist. The notebooks contain the following information: (1) Detailed description of drugs that the student worked with during the previous year; (2) Weekly report that records: (a) number of prescriptions filled in drug outlet during the previous week including number of refills, narcotic prescriptions filled and number of prescriptions student filled, and (b) report of the general duties involved in the operation of a drug outlet for the previous week including: (1) ordering merchandise, (2) checking orders, (3) filling prescriptions, (4) arranging merchandise, (5) managing personnel, (6) advertising products, (7) keeping accounts outstanding, (8) keeping records of prescriptions filled, (9) pricing merchandise, and (10) studying professional journals, books, etc.; (3) Apprentice discussions of the above general duties and suggestions as to how pharmacist services might be improved; (4) Apprentice discussions of general professional duties including: (a) relationships with doctors, nurses and other professional people, (b) observance of legal control procedures involving drugs, and (c) fees paid to druggists; (5) Detailed description of the various drug outlets. The material in these notebooks covers a wide geographical area of the state including every section of the state and every type of drug outlet in both cities and small towns. The quality of the presentations varies from one notebook to another, but most show a high quality of scholarship.
