Thomas Perry, Jr., schoolmaster copybook
Scope and Contents
This volume is a copybook written over several months by Thomas Perry, an Elbert County, GA, schoolmaster. Quaint drawings and forms to be used for documents and letter writing are included. Loose papers contain a draft of a letter to his parents. The book contains mathematical rules and equations used in farming, trade and shipping, with formulas, exercises and problems. It was also partly a calligraphic exercise demonstrating ornate scripts. Perry divided the book into chapters with headings, and ended many chapters with pen and ink drawings. The drawings appear to be based on folk motifs, contemporary events, and perhaps published sources.
