Goodloe Harper Yancey was born around 1848 in Montgomery, Alabama, to William Lowndes (born circa 1814 and died 1863 ) and Sarah Caroline Earle Yancey (born circa 1815 and died in 1883). Goodloe married Lucy G. Deupree in 1872 in Clarke County, Georiga and later married Ruby Mandeville (originally from Clarke County, Georgia) in 1899 in Madison (Jackson? according to marriage announcement), Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens after serving as a private in the Civil War. Amidst a varied career life, he served as alderman in Athens, was the owner of several Georgia newspapers, and engaged in planting. He was also an officer in the 3rd Regt. GA Vols., 1886-1896. Later he was secretary of the Georgia Prison Commission. Yancey died in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia August 4, 1924.
