Biographical / Historical

Frank Mitchell was born August 11, 1888, in Thomasville, Georgia, to parents Thomas Cole Mitchell and Frances Sophronia Mitchell. He enlisted in the military during World War I and served as a 2nd Lt. Engineer in the 214th Engineers. He served overseas from December 1917 to June 1918, and was honorably discharged in February 1919. He returned to Thomasville and worked as a surveyor. On October 21, 1920, Frank married Margaret Brandon in Thomas County, Georgia. By 1930, he was working as a civil engineer. During his career he worked for the railroad.

Frank Mitchell died in Jacksonville, Florida on January 7, 1937, and he is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery (Mitchell Plot, 6th Street) in Thomasville, Georgia. After Frank's death, his widow and children moved in with Harriett C. Brandon and David L. Brandon, Margaret's sister, and brother, who also lived in Thomasville.
