Verdel family papers
Scope and Contents
Mostly records of Dr. Dunston B. Verdel, his wife, Eliza, and their sons, Thomas and Clarence, of Elbert County, Georgia. Deeds, financial notes, estate records, medical and other business records, some slave documents, and a few letters. Early records concern the Brewer and Clark families. An album kept by daughter Sarah (Sally) F. Verdel at the Female Seminary in Washington, Georgia, (ca. 1875) held poems and other effusions of school raves plus many handwritten recipes placed there at a later date. Two letters refer to Thomas Verdel's work as a civil engineer, perhaps on the French Broad River.
