Scope and Contents This collection includes two family accounts. Guy C. McKinley was about 72 years old when he wrote the 1930 account of his childhood during the Civil War in his parents' plantation home across the Oconee River from Milledgeville, Georgia. The area was engulfed by Sherman's March to the Sea in 1864, and two Union generals, possibly Jackson and Geary, were stationed at the McKinley plantation.
