Scope and Contents This collection includes letters from Speir to his wife during his participation in the Atlanta Campaign. He appears on the Georgia Census for Re-Organizing the Georgia Milita in 1864, listed as a planter. He may have served in the Jefferson Home Guard with other older men who had not seen service before. James Speir has erroneously been listed as serving in the 54th Georgia Infantry, however the service record of the James Spear who served in this unit shows that this man was still alive...
