The letters to her husband are dated May 15 and Oct. 16, 1864 the first written from Hanover Junction, Virginia. Because the General and Mrs. Gordon had agreed to burn all their letters after reading, they contain an unusually intimate portrait of their domestic relations. Fanny makes specific references to her husband's duties in the Civil War while in Virginia.

Scope and Contents Letterbooks (7) and account books (2) kept by John Brown Gordon documenting business and other transactions. The letterbooks (Gordon's outgoing letters to various business persons throughout the country) document much of the business of the International Railroad and Steamship Company of Florida, including railroad building, obtaining lands, and funding. The account books which record Gordon's receipts and disbursements contain accounts for some of the same names indexed in the letterbooks....
