Scope and Contents
Transcriptions of deeds and mortgages showing land transactions which were recorded in the office of the clerk of superior court. Types of deeds may be: (1) fi fa (sheriff's); (2) administrator; (3) quit claim; (4) guardian; (5) probate; (6) security, and (7) trust deeds. In some cases, deeds to slaves may be recorded. Civil mortgage cases may include a mortgage agreement, the petition to foreclose because of default, and the foreclosure notice and its resultant fi fa. Information recorded includes: (1) date of instrument; (2) contracting parties; (3) purchase price; (4) legal description of property, county, signatures, and (5) date of recording. Information on deeds includes purchase price. Information on mortgages includes amount of debt and contract period.
