Scope and Contents
Biographical / Historical Note:
The Georgia Main Street Program began in 1980 as a pilot program for the National Main Street Initiative launched by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This program uses public and private partnership to revitalize downtown areas, promote tourism and employment, and preserve historic buildings throughout Georgia.
Dept of Community Affairs:
The mission of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), created in 1977 is to partner with communities to help create a climate of success for Georgia’s families and businesses and advocate for local governments.
Scope and Content Note:
The Office of Downtown Development coordinates the Georgia Main Street and Better Hometown programs. These programs assist Georgia cities and neighborhoods in the development of their core commercial areas.
