This series contains: (1) correspondence, most of which consists of letters of approval of construction plans and specifications for public water supply systems (2) inspection reports (3) sanitary surveys (4) water supply source approval reports (5) water quality approval reports and (6) applications for permits to operate. These records thus document the construction and monitoring of safe drinking water supply systems in Georgia even prior to the Georgia Safe Drinking Water Act of 1977.

The files are arranged by time span of considerable length and then roughly alphabetically by county. Each county was also assigned a number determined by its position in the alphabetical sequence, but although the numbers are indicated, their use in the filing system is redundant.
